In a midweek fixture between 4th and 5th place, it was a big game for both sides as Stewkley wanted to ensure there is enough breathing space in 4th.
It was a bad start for Stewkley as we went 1-0 down very early on, this was shortly followed by a 2nd and 3rd, leaving the boys going into half-time 3-0 down.
HT: 0-3
A change was needed, so stand-in manager Nick, brought on Ryan and Dan, pushing Niall into midfield and Rory filling in at centre half. This change was obviously what was needed, as straight after the break, we pulled one back through Chris, bending one in from the left. This was quickly followed by a second as Rory took a short corner, received the ball back, nutmegging the defender and playing a ball across the box for Niall to tap in. The pressure built from there as Stewkley relentless attacked the Linford goal, eventually scoring a 3rd to equalise and then a 4th to take the lead. Having battled their way through the game, there was only a few minutes left when the ball struck Rory on the arm in the box, resulting in a penalty and a straight red card, which Linford converted, making the score 4-4. At this point, it seemed all of their hard work was for nothing. All of a sudden, Stewkley found themselves with a corner with a minute to play, as Gav put in a delightful ball, it was met by an even better header from Ryan to make the score 5-4 to Stewkley, after the way the game went, it was just what they deserved!
